Raging Bull
(1980)
Director: Martin Scorsese
Starring: Robert de Niro, Joe Pesci, Cathy Moriarty, Frank Vincent
our comment. "This movie has more atmosphere than Jupiter."
Raised in the slums of the Bronx, Jake La Motta rose to fame as the "Bronx bull" defeating Marcel Cerdan in the tenth round to become the world heavyweight champion of 1949. To his cost, however, the rage which was La Motta's ally once inside the ring extended beyond the boundaries of his career, becoming directed against himself and those around him. This sadomasochistic rage, coupled with his excessive drinking and an ongoing weight problem, precipitated La Motta into a downward spiral. His decline from a hard, lean contender who prided himself on never having been knocked down to a pathetic, bloated and self-deprecating nightclub performer is pathetic with uncompromising detail.

Flawlessly directed by Martin Scorsese this masterpiece is one of the 80's best motion pictures.

Story: 10/10 - Again teaming up with Paul Schrader (Taxi driver), this movie has more atmosphere than Jupiter!

Acting: 10/10 - This is the example to be followed, probably the most well-deserved Oscar's of all time.

Violence: 8/10 - Filled with grim and blood-soaked fight sequences. Not for the squemish.

Nudity: 0/10 - I don't think that would fit in here.

Coolness: 10/10 - Scorsese filmed it thinking it would be his last, thank God it wasn't.
