Kingdom of the spiders
(1977)
Director: John Cardos
Starring: William Shatner, Tiffany Bolling, Woody Strode, David McLean
our comment. "Captain Kirk is actually not that bad."
Veterinarian Rack Hansen of Verde Valley, an Arizona desert town, is baffled by the death of farmer Walter Colby's prixe calf. He sends some samples of the animal's blood to Arizona State University, and entomologist Diane Ashley shows up with the news that the calf was killed by a massive dose of tarantula venom. Colby shows Dr. Ashley and Rack a gigantic spider hill on his property, home to thousands of the creepy crawlies. Obviously something is wrong. As Ashley explains, tarantulas usually don't attack in groups and aren't aggressive toward any creatures other than their usual insect prey. But these spiders are nasty, they attack in waves, and their venom is five times more toxic than normal. At first they attack only the farm animals...but soon their growing numbers require more!

What it lacks in imagination it makes up for in sheer creepiness.

Story: 5/10 - Using the same formula as Jaws.

Acting: 7/10 - Captain Kirk is actually not that bad.

Violence: 2/10 - It's not like they eat people, they just bite them and store them for later snack.

Nudity: 1/10 - Yup, but I almost missed it!

Coolness: 9/10 - Hell yeah, who cares that they're just spiders and any normal person would just step on them.
