It's mutation time, based on Stan Lee's unbelieveably popular comic this movie had huge expectations written all over it. So whose the man to pull of this impossible task , you ask? Bryan Singer, acclaimed director of the surprisingly cool film "the Usual suspects".
So let's round up some of the suspects: Wolverine, an angry loner with metal skeleton wich include claws coming from his hands when he feels ill-tempered and amazing healing powers. Magneto, the man can control anything that's metal, Storm, besides being a striking beauty she can control the weather. Cyclops, has laser shooting from his eyes and Toad, an unfortunate fella whose superpowers basically involves being disguisting.
This movie has no violence, no cool cars, no half naked bimbos, no unrated version, no killer rabbits and no songs made by either Curtis Mayfield or Isaac Hayes, so why do I like this movie? What's not to like about this movie, it's got everything a film buff needs.
The scenes from the Mutant academy are unforgettable. Throw in some gutsy, slick filmmaking and add some dynamite f/x and you're home free.
But as always there is one small complaint: Where the fuck is the sequel???
Investigation finished: 2000-11-29
Story: 6/10 - Since when was that so important, read a book. The story here is actually semi-good if you ever get the chance to get a hang of it.
Acting: 9/10 - excellent choice of actors, especially for Wolverine (he could have been extremely embarrasing) and Magneto. Ian Mckellan is great as a super villain who can control metal, bet he never thought he would be doing that.
Violence: 2/10 - it's PG-13, I think not.
Nudity: 0/10 - Who needs naked women when you have metal claws coming from your hands, or can control the weather that matter. You won't be dreaming of Chasey Lain after you see this movie.
Coolness: 8/10 - No question about it Bryan Singer is cool, the way Mystique shape-shifts in mid-air is worth five points alone.
Skid-marks: 10/10 - All the way to the theatre!
