A Cuban hustler who emigrates to Miami in the infamous 1980 refugee boatlift wills his way to the top of a cocaine cartel by being more violent and destructive than anyone else can possibly imagine. But the same drive that leads him to the top ultimately causes his downfall.
De Palma wanted this flashy, ultra-violent tale of a Cuban gangster's rise and fall to be his Godfather. Not quite, but even if it doesn't match Coppola's masterpiece it's still a no holds-barred account of criminal success and excess.
Genuinly lovable!!
Investigation finished: 2000-12-15
Story: 9/10 - A classic gangster tale.
Acting: 10/10 - Fuck "scent of a woman", this is Al's oscar.
Violence: 9/10 - Take "The wild bunch" and add some "Godfather", then spice it with some "Texas chainsaw massacre" and you're half way there.
Nudity: 2/10 - Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Tony's sister) is beautiful, but just thinking about her makes me look over my shoulder, twice!
Coolness: 8/10 - Cool suits, big guns and mountains of cocaine, what else is there. Oh! Yes a soundtrack that must have taught Harold Faltermeyer a thing or two.
