Director: Sam Peckinpah
Starring: Steve McQueen, Ali Mcgraw, Ben Johnson, Al Lettieri, Bo Hopkins
detective TV80 kbps, 34 kbps our comment. "...McQueen is the coolest movie star ever, don't let anybody tell you any different."
Doc McCoy, a cold-blooded and laconic crook, is bailed out of jail by a bent politico (Ben Johnson), so that he and his wife Carol can pull of a robbery for him. McCoy enlists the help of a couple of psychos (Lettieri and Hopkins) to help him out, but when Hopkins kills a hostage and Lettieri tries to nick the stolen cash, the McCoys are forced to go on the run.

And just to complicate things Doc finds out that Johnson forced Carol to sleep with him in order to get her husband out of prison, and that the whole robbery was in fact a set-up.

The couple hurtle towards the Mexican border and safety, with Lettieri and Hopkins chasing from one end and the local cops chasing from another.

Sam Peckinpah keeps the adrenalin pumping at all times; making The Getaway the ultimate in raw and explosive 1970's movie making.

Your e-mail:
Story: 9/10 - This violent bank-heist movie is based on the book by Jim Thompson, and the scrip is written by movie maverick Walter Hill. An uncompromising, stylish and hard-hitting thriller.

Acting: 10/10 - Mqueen is very believable as the tough and uncomunicative Doc Mccoy, it's also great to see Al Lettieri as the "friendly" psycho (Michael Madsen does this part poorly in the crappy remake starring Ken Baldwin and Barbie Basinger).

Violence: 6/10 - There is the usual slow-motion bloodletting that Peckinpah is famous for, but not as violent as The Wild bunch.

Nudity: 3/10 - Ali Mcgraw is slapped (by Steve Mqueen) and forced to sleep with Ben Johnson in order to free her husband, but Peckinpah has the decensy to let her keep her clothes on, mostly...

Coolness: 9/10 - Steve Mqueen is the coolest movie star ever, don't let anybody tell you any different.

Skid-marks: 6/10 - No Mqueen film is complete without some serious wheel spinning.

Soundz: 8/10 - A superb Quincy Jones soundtrack, very groovy.
