our comment. "Clever, Ridley, very clever..."
Set in the future, alien starts off with seven earthlings on their way back home. But their space-ship, Nostromo, is deterred from it's course and the humans are awakened from hyper sleep. It seems a distress signal has been picked up the ships computer and by company regulations they are required to set down on the planet and investigate. A search party of three discover a giant alien ship and go in for a closer look. Inside, one of the crew is attacked by a parasite and is taken on board for examination. Soon, a baby alien burst out of the crewmembers stomach and disappears in the ship. The crew bury their dead friend and set off in teams to find, flush out and get rid of their uninvited passenger. But they soon realize that the alien is rapidly growing and is soon an 8 feet tall unstoppable carnivorous alien intent on picking off the crew one by one.

This huge box office hit is a grisly rollercoaster ride of suspense and fear, with just enough slime and gore to prevent you from keeping your dinner down. Scary stuff!

Story: 8/10 - Not just another "slimy monster from outer space" story.

Acting: 9/10 - An excellent cast, Weaver is exceptional as a self-reliant survivor chasing the ugliest bug in the galaxy.

Violence: 8/10 - Oscar-winning effects include the baby alien bursting out of John Hurts chest. Higly imitated.

Nudity: 0/10 - No, so you concentrate fully on the alien. Clever, Ridley, very clever.

Coolness: 7/10 - H. I. Gigers frightening alien is the mother of all creatures, it can never be out-done (if that's not cool, then what is).
