A maniac killer who calls himself Scorpio (actually based on the real life San Francisco killer Zodiac) demands ransom money or he'll commit a murder a day.
Harry Callahan is put on the case, and he is as uncompromising as they come. Losing partners as other people lose car keys (this gag is very copied), and always in opposition with his by-the book executives. Seemingly the only difference between Harry Callahan and the killer is the fact that he operates with a badge.
The star was originally supposedly to be Paul Newman, then Frank Sinatra??? (Imagine Johnny Fontaine as Dirty Harry). Definitely one of the finest action/cop movies of all time.
Investigation finished: 2001-01-11
Story: 8/10 - Stripping the genre of any pretence at moralising, this hard edged thriller is more entertaining than most of the regurgitation now days.
Acting: 9/10 - Clint Eastwood gives one of his most riveting performances of his movie career, "his" Dirty Harry is cemented as one of the screen's hardest leading men.
Violence: 5/10 - Probably the first film to deal with police brutality. The violence is hardly ever graphic.
Nudity: 3/10 - Starring Debralee Scott as a nude corpse. A wonderful performance!
Coolness: 9/10 - Backed by Lalo Schifrin's superb score (as always) this is coolness in effect, Harry Callahan is one bad muthafucker.
Skid-marks: 8/10 - Every 70's action flick has a car chase, this one involves Harry (Dirty amongst friends) on the roof of a school bus in pursuit of the killer.
