Superfly
(1972)
Director: Gordon Parks, Jr.
Starring: Ron O'Neal, Carl Lee, Julius W.Harris, Sheila Frazier
our comment. "Streetwise, powerful and wonderfully pimpadelic."
Priest is a prince of the streets, a slick and charismatic pusher who dresses super-sharp and always plays for keeps. Priest wants out of the biz for good, but to buy his way out of the gutter he has to make one final score to earn him the cool million he needs. As he fights and hustles his way to his fortune, he must approach The Man, a shadowy kingpin who runs the entire rotten and corrupt drug trade in the city. When the Man wants Priest to stay on the streets and keep on pushing ('cuz Priest is a class A pusher), Priest fights back, triggering an explosion of murder, revenge and double-crossing.

Shaft was directed by Gordon Parks, this movie was directed by his son, the force obviously runs strong in this family. I loved every cheesy minute.

Story: 8/10 - Never a story like this one. It's got a plan to stick it to the man. One of the masterpieces of the infamous blaxploitation genre.

Acting: 7/10 - Ron O'Neal kicks ass.

Violence: 5/10 - It's sleazy, gritty and deviant, but violent. Not really!

Nudity: 8/10 - That's weird, this guy is also a sex machine with all the chicks.

Coolness: 10/10 - YES! Streetwise, powerful and wonderfully pimpadelic. The intro is a classic. The artwork for the film is worth 10 points alone.

Soundz: 10/10 - The best soundtrack ever, probably the best album ever. Curtis Mayfield is hugely talented (he also appears in the film).
