The Perfect storm
(2000)
Director: Wolfgang Petersen
Starring: George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane, John C. Reilly, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio
our comment. "The first fishploitation..."
Six seafarers go out on a boat to fish and get caught in a major storm, created by three raging weather fronts, one of them hurricane Grace. This leaves our beloved fishermen in deep shit, and they struggle to reach safe harbour with the heroics of air/sea rescue crews. At least Wolfgang Petersen didn't annoy us with an embarrasing ending where the crazy six return to their loved ones (they're all killed at sea), but it's still over-sentimental and cheesy.

If you thought "Twister" was sensetional and "Titanic" was a masterpiece, then this film is probably right up your alley. But if you're like me, buy it and you'll never need Sominex again.

Story: 1/10 - A bunch of rednecks go fishing and end up getting caught in a storm, it's rescue 911 with a big budget.

Acting: 7/10 - Lot of good acting, John C. Reilly is excellent (as always), but let's face it the big star here is the effects.

Violence: 2/10 - The first fishploitation, a genuine splasher movie.

Nudity: 0/10 - Yeah well, it wasn't like I was expecting any.

Coolness: 0/10 - It's got a "this is the moment of truth" speech, and that is never a good sign.
