Death Wish
(1974)
Director: Michael Winner
Starring: Charles Bronson, Vincent Gardenia, William Redfield, Hope Lange
our comment. "... it made a star out of Charles Bronson, now that's an effort."
Paul Kersey is a liberal who has a change of opinion after his wife and daughter are violently attacked by a gang of thugs in their apartement. His daughter is raped, and his wife is beaten to death. Kersey then turns vigilante as he stalks the mean streets of New York on the prowl for muggers, hoodlums and the like.

Probably the most popular revenge movie around, followed by three laughable sequels and it made a star out of Charles Bronson, now that's an effort.

Story: 8/10 - A violent and controversial film when it came out, it's a very frank and original tale of urban crime and the average citizen's helplessness in dealing with it.

Acting: 6/10 - We can't accuse Charles Bronson of being a great actor, but he delivers an o.k performance as the vengeful Paul Kersey.

Violence: 6/10 - Probably the least violent in the series, but definitely the most powerful.

Nudity: 3/10 - We get to see the violation of Kersey's daughter (lucky us), so we know why he's so pissed.

Coolness: 8/10 - It's motherfucking Charlie Bronson, Mr. Majestyk, and it's got an over-cool soundtrack by the legendary Herbie Hancock.
