The Watcher
(2000)
Director: Joe Charbanic
Starring: James Spader, Keanu Reeves, Marisa Tomei, Ernie Hudson
our comment. "... a quite enjoyable little serial killer flick..."
After years of pursuing psychotic killers in Los Angeles, FBI agent Joel Campbell wants out. And now his nemesis, serial killer David Allen Griffin, has tracked him down all the way to Chicago just to continue their deadly game of cat-and-mouse. Each game commences when Griffin sends Campbell a picture of a young girl, giving Campbell 24 hours to locate her before she’s murdered. After three tragic failures, the stakes are upped when Griffin kidnaps Campbell’s beautiful psychatrist, Polly mimicking an earlier event that drove Campbell to Chicago in the first place.

This will never become a classic, it will probably never even gain any recognition, but in all fairness it’s a quite enjoyable little serial killer flick, nothing more – nothing less.

Story: 6/10 - An action-packed cat and mouse chase, that owes as much to Thomas Harris as it does David Fincher.

Acting: 5/10 - Spader is very good, Tomei doesn’t have that much too work with but pretty boy Keanu Reeves is just unbearable to watch. He is truly a lousy actor, and should only be used in over-cool stuff like The Matrix.

Violence: 4/10 - This movie is not grim enough, the serial killer is not really all that demented or scary.

Nudity: 0/10 - Sorry

Coolness: 5/10 - Has some cool moments, but you’ll probably soon forget it; I did.
